Preferences & shortcuts

Add your recordings, then mark the start/finish crossing each lap. The first gate starts timing. A new gate within the replacement tolerance (default ±0.5 seconds) replaces the closest one; Undo restores the previous position. A failure marker invalidates that lap; no cause is inferred and it is excluded from timing.

Place gates during playback for a first pass. To refine one, pause and use the frame-step controls to compare neighbouring frames. Pausing alone leaves a marker ESTIMATED. You can also click Verify placement on an estimated marker: this pauses and jumps to it, then waits for you to step a frame before marking it VERIFIED. With marker movement enabled the marker follows your step; otherwise its timestamp stays unchanged.

VERIFIED means you used frame stepping with Auto-verify enabled, or selected Verify placement and then stepped a frame. Verify placement requires that frame step even when auto-verify is off. ESTIMATED means the position still needs checking. Auto-verify and moving nearby markers are separate preferences, both on by default. Playback, scrubbing or jumping resets frame-step verification for new placements. These labels record your method, not a guarantee of the correct crossing.

Hold the backward triangles to rewind or the forward triangles to fast-forward. Releasing returns to your previous speed and paused/playing state. Use Quick reviewed after watching and marking the recording. Finish candidate review checks competitive gate boundaries against the best results across all recordings for this track. By default, it includes laps within 0.5 seconds of the track best, and three-lap sequences within 1.5 seconds of the track best three. Manage tracks → Timing settings changes the consecutive-lap count and review margin for each track. Only their gate boundaries need verification; slower laps do not need individual verification for full review. The additional finish bar appears below the DVR in the final five seconds, or ten seconds when every counted lap timing is verified. The DVR stays visible when playback ends. A green frame means competitive timings are ready; an extra badge appears when every valid lap timing is verified. Failure markers and gates used only by invalid laps are excluded from both checks.

Frame stepping & markers

↑ steps forward one frame; ↓ steps back one frame (about 1 / FPS). Both pause playback first. If already paused, the option below also moves the closest nearby marker onto the new frame. Ctrl + ← / → pauses and jumps to the previous / next gate crossing, skipping failure markers. Delete removes the closest marker inside the edit tolerance.

Video formats & saved analyses

Fat Shark MJPEG AVI plays frame by frame (video only). HDZero H.264/H.265 TS and unsupported MP4 can be converted locally. For native video, set the source FPS before stepping frames. Large or damaged files may need a desktop converter.

Markers stay in this browser. Export sidecar saves all tracks and recording analyses in one JSON file. Imported tracks reconnect by stable ID. The import dialog lets you merge different IDs into an existing track, with name-match suggestions. Existing local names and recording assignments win conflicts. Manage tracks lets you merge existing tracks later. Import combines collections and removes duplicate markers; conflicting edits to the same marker retain the local version. Reselect video files to reconnect them using a SHA-256 hash of the entire video, independent of filename. Old sample-based analyses are deprecated and are not loaded or imported. Videos stay on your device.

Import tracks

Choose where each incoming track belongs. Matching names are suggested; similar names stay separate unless you choose a merge. Recordings and markers are preserved. Existing recordings keep their local track assignment.

Unassigned recordings remain unassigned. Tracks with the same ID reconnect automatically.

Manage tracks

Select tracks to merge into an existing destination. The destination keeps its name and ID; recordings, markers and review status are preserved.

Track timing settings

Verification compares against the fastest results across all recordings in this track. The sequence margin is the per-lap margin multiplied by the consecutive-lap count. Failure markers are never checked.

Delete all saved data?

This removes all Gateframe tracks, markers, timings, review statuses, preferences and shortcuts saved in this browser. Your original video files are untouched. This cannot be undone without a sidecar backup.

Save your current sidecar before continuing. You can re-import it later to restore tracks and analyses.
